This leading football film festival will kick off this evening March 9th with “We are the Champions”, the legendary German goalkeeper and Coach Sepp Maier’s video diary of the 1990 World Cup – with never before screened images from inside the World Cup winning squad.
The film Polish director Kornel Migluss movie, ‘The Frankfurt Water Fight/ Wasserschlacht von Frankfurt’ will also be screened tonight – again featuring Sepp Maier in a leading role.
Circa150 football – related movies have been submitted from around the world for inclusion into the 9th edition of ‘11mm – International Football Film Festival’
Fifty were selected and will be shown between March 9th and 13th 2012 at Cinema Babylon in Berlin-Mitte. The complete festival programme is now available, where football film fans can also purchase tickets for the festival. www.babylonberlin.de
This year is Euro 2012 year – so, the festival will focus on “Football in Poland and the Ukraine”, along with “International Novelties” and, for a 3rd time, “Football Films for Children and Youth”.
The festival award 2 best films prizes – the “Golden 11″ prize for the best fiction and/or documentary and “11mm shortkicks” prize for the best short film.
Post festival – the organizers will present excerpts from their programme on an “11mm Roadshow”.
The history of the festival ’11mm’ began in 2004 with a series of 11 British football films and the ‘ The International Football Film Festival’ now screens around 50 feature, documentary and short films from across the world. Since 2009, the Berlin festival has been followed by a tour to other cities in Germany. 11mm is organised by Brot und Spiele e.V., the Berlin club for sport and culture, and is presented by the German Football Association’s Cultural Foundation.
