The classical and highly respected china and poreclain manufacturers Royal Doulton and Waterford Wedgwood companies went into administration in 2009.
With an almost dead porcelain industry laying in waste in desolate old industrial England, Chinese manufacturers are stepping into the vacuum big time- with all the potential problems that may entail.
A recent example is a reported Chinese-produced souvenir mug produced for the wedding of Britain’s Prince William and bride Kate Middleton – mistakenly displaying the prince’s younger brother Harry as the groom.
While this could also be just a big hoax – most of the reputable news feeds are not carrying the story – it still has all the hallmarks of possibly being true, and either way rather funny!
Also if true………..buy as many of these mugs as you can. Their commercial value can only increase over time – their comic value will remain priceless.
There has been some coverage in the German press about the up-coming wedding in London – and some German Royalty groupies perhaps even from Berlin will no doubt attend.
However for most Germans, and indeed most Europeans, English royalty is just so much more ‘pomp & circumstance’ signifying nothing – and laugh it off as historically the last vestige of dying empire…..as nice as William & Kate may be!
