Freiburg was the better team for long stretches and mercilessly took advantage of the mistakes of Berlin and benefited from a strange goal. Hertha “woke up late” in the game, too late.
Hertha coach Otto Rehhagel started with the familiar ‘usual suspect’ line-up as in the tied game to Moenchengladbach last week. Freiburg coach Christian had also to win a game after his side’s 2-2 draw last week against Nuremberg.
No doubt tomorrows headlines will read “Dembele hits the bar & Hubnik scores twice -once his own goal” – because that sort of sums up the game.
Both teams started cautiously in what Rehhagel had called one of Hertha’s “decisive battles” against relegation…. and groped their way around rather timidly from the beginning.
Berlin did come back into the game in the 2nd half somewhat – however it was too little too late – and after Sebastian Freis scored in the 67th minute we knew what time it was.
The unlucky Czech defender, Roman Hubnik did the only right thing and scored in the 81st minute with his head. But it was not to be.
Back to the drawing board for Otto Rehhagel.
It is of extreme importance that Berlin has and keeps a first league Bundesliga team. We continue to …….pray for a miracle.
