Fortuna Düsseldorf secured their place in the First Bundesliga and thereby consigned Hertha Berlin to the 2nd tier for the next 2012/2013 season after tying Hertha at home 2-2.
Düsseldorf won 2-1 in Berlin in the first leg last week and this evening Fortuna managed a 2-2 draw at home return to the German first division since the 1996-97 season.
Fortuna had finished third in the 2nd division and won the right to play Hertha who ended their season 3rd from the bottom.
This 2nd leg game saw 9 yellow cards and one sending off for Hertha and ended in confusion in the closing minutes as Fortuna fans stormed onto the field while there were 2 minutes of injury time remaining.
Ranisav Jovanovic scored Fortuna2nd goal in the 59th minute, after Maximilian Beister’s had struck ominously for Hertha in the 27th second!
Anis Ben-Hatira, put Hertha back into the game in the first half which finished 1-1 but he was later sent off while Raffael equalised for Hertha with just 5 minutes left to play and Hertha needing just one goal more – but it was not to be.
Hertha will now return to the 2nd division after just one season again in the Bundesliga and everyone in Berlin genuinely hopes that the losers who are presently in charge of the team are all thrown out and kicked out and never return.
It was they, who because of having changed managers three times in mid-season, must take full responsibility for the complete chaos on the field.

There has to be some kind of schade-freude in all of this.
Hertha were losers this season that is for sure. Too bad for Berlin, better luck next time -maybe.
Hertha have protested and there will be a hearing on Friday.
In their airplane high above the clouds and reality it seems,on the return flight from Dusseldorf, Hertha was in the truest sense of the word in the balance – staying athletic, but still with the hope of returning to the league through the back door.
The club presented the day after the 2-2 draw in Düsseldorf objection to the game a rating. The DFB sports court heard the appeal on Friday in Berlin, Düsseldorf said the celebration planned for Saturday will be postponed for the time being.
It is stupid for Hertha now to think that somehow they can sneak back into the Bundeliga via the back door. I hope this does not succeed and most football fans in Germany will support Fortuna Dusseldorf who won fairly over two games.
