The above picture of an empty Berlin Olympic Stadium – home of Hertha Berlin Football Club will probably look this empty next year because the team is now offically relegated down a league from the German top Bundesliga.
The appeal of Hertha FC to the DFB has not been successful and hence is now offically in the German 2nd division. They did not deserve to stay in the Bundesliga and it would have a been a travestry of justice had the court granted them, and not Fortuna Dusseldorf a place in the top Bundesliga ranks.
The Berlin club was,  despite an emotional and rather soapy and melo-dramtic appeal and pleas from coach Otto Rehhagel,  unconvincing for most Germans – and certainly for the court . The club is now relegated to the Second Bundesliga and this is as it should be.
The 2nd game of its relegation home & away legs ended in 2-2 draw in Dusseldorf – enough for Fortuna to win 4-3 on aggregate.
The game was marred by fans who came onto the field and ended in a very un-Bundesliga type brawl whereby all players had to flee the pitch.  Hertha is even now still considering to appeal to  the International Sports Tribunal to order the result of the promotion-relegation match against Fortuna Dusseldorf to be undone.
Hertha had argued on a point of legality that the result should be declared void and that the match should have to be replayed because their players were unable to focus on football during the final 2 minutes of remaining match time.

Hertha Berlin will now return to the 2nd division after just one season again in the Bundesliga and everyone in Berlin genuinely hopes that the losers who are presently in charge of the team are all thrown out and kicked out and never return.

It was they, who because of having changed managers three times in mid-season, must take full responsibility for the complete chaos on the field.
