‘Missoula’, a two month old Puma cub -the only survivor from the litter of 3 – was introduced to Berlin yesterday. This is a rarity because the last time a baby Puma was born at the zoo was a good 22 years ago.
The cub is presently being raised by Berlin’s Tierpark zoo staff because the mother, a Canadian puma called ‘Cheyenne’ has thus far overcome all her natural maternal instincts and rejected all of her previous cubs. Missoula, who now weighs only 3.8 Kilo has already started to diets on beef and mice and in the coming months, near future her spotted fur will slowly turn to a more reddish – orange brown.
Missoula now seems to have a solid fan following in the ‘little-people’ however this is sure to grow among older visitors and the zoo can expects a huge jump in attendance.
It looks very much like this puma cub will become the darling of Berlin’s Tierpark Zoo just as Knut, the polar had two years ago. Mountain lion, Cougar or Puma – Puma concolor – is one member of the genus known by many names includes the Puma and is many different things to many different people in North and South America. Puma SE also happens to be a popular German shoe and sportswear company.
