Today, a chief organizer of WC 2010 – Mr Danny Jordaan – has said that the controversial ‘high-pitched and extremely irritatingly stupid ‘vuvuzela’ horns may yet be banned from inside stadiums.
He gave no time scale on any future decision only pointing out that if it was decided by the organizers that they were an unbearable nuisance – then they would be banned.
How much evidence does he need?
The constant buzz and droning sound of the horn-like instrument has already raised many complaints from players, managers, broadcasters and most importantly the millions upon millions of people around the world who have to turn down their TV sets – and thus cannot even hear the commentators – which actually is usually not such a loss – however viewers should not be forced into this action.
Many famous football players have now ‘joined the chorus’ against the noise – already many top names have complained about the’ vuvuzelas’ and some have argued that they even cannot sleep at night because of the ‘ vuvuzelas’ outside their hotels – people apparently start playing them from the early morning onwards.
Also players are complaining that they cannot hear each other on the field – the ’vuvuzela’ horns are blown continuously during matches in the patently absurd belief that the noise intimidates opposing teams along with taunts of shouting and yelling.
It has been estimated that circa 1 million ‘vuvuzelas’ have been sold prior to the start of World Cup 2010.
Some medical audiologists have warned that prolonged exposure to this horrible drone could damage hearing and they advise wearing ear plugs in any proximity to them.
