EURO 2012 – Daily Report – DAY 14 – Later today GERMANY vs GREECE in 2nd semi-final matches- by contributor OTA-Berlin Constituency Blog contributor Mr Filip van der Plas

June 21st, 2012

The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012, is now thirteen active playing days old – we are at the end of round one -and there has been a lot fo good and exciting football with 2 more teams through to the next phase .  I will be writing a daily blog article with the salient features of all the games. Please send us your thoughts and comments on the form below.  – Filip v d Plas-

England – Ukraine  1-0

Headlines read “Wayne Rooney scores decisive goal with a header in Donetsk” and indeed Rooney made his comeback to the England team with a [flattering] 1-0 win against Ukraine and thus England have reached the quarter-finals of EURO 2012 – their prize is to meet Italy.

This rejuvenated and much younger Blokhin team dominated the first half clearly, but could not take advantage of their many opportunities.

With Ukraine trailing England by one goal , Ukrainian forward Marko Devic scored an equalizer in the 62nd minute – however this was not recognized by a completely failing and disastrously incompetent linesman.

Devic had taken the ball on the run, went around England defender John Terry and then shot towards the goal where the ball then deflected off the goalie, high into the air and clearly [if you watch the replay from any angle] crosses the goal line. Terry had followed the ball into the goal area then and cleared it out however this was after the fact of it having crossed the line.

Even my grandmother with poor eyesight could see the ball was in – why could not paid UEFA officials? How unprofessional can you get?

Ukrainian officials immediately called for the referee to rule the play a goal, but it seems that UEFA had already made up its mind and this seems to fit in with its own possible furtive goal – probably for political reasons – it may have had of keeping the Ukraine as far away from any final spot as possible.

Instead of apologizing after this clear screw-up they attempted to cover their own ineptitude with the usual pladitudes -” Uefa’s chief refereeing officer Pierluigi Collina admits Ukraine’s wrongly-disallowed goal against England should have stood, describing the error as “a human mistake made by a human being”.’  http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18517132

Perhaps UEFA’s own refereeing officers should resign – that would be a ‘human’ thing to do!
