FRANCE – SPAIN 0- 2
“Xabi Alonso scored twice, as Spain did what they had to do. France, meanwhile, turned up, but that’s about it” – is how Scott Murray described it in today’s Guardian UK when he wrote up this evenings match…………and that about is the gist of it.Euro 2012: Spain v France – as it happened http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jun/23/euro-2012-spain-france-live-
For long stretches Spain ruled the field and the European and Worlds champion did what they had to do – and nothing more and won the match 2-0 –deservedly.
This result was due not only to the superior skill level of the Spanish team and their early goal, but also to play strange passive kind of play from the French “Equipe Tricolore”, who other than Frank Ribery seemed very lack lustre and without imagination.
The team of Laurent Blanc was very solid in defense but upfront in attack they made their moves too slowly –when at all – and rarely challenged the Spanish defence.
France now go home and concentrate their attentions to the World Cup 2014 qualifying games where they will face ….yes you guessed it Spain again! The must play them twice with the first meeting already scheduled for this coming October.
Spain will have 3 full days of rest until they go back to Donetsk to face Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in their semi-final showdown – and then if they win the game – onto the final.

Best place I have found to watch EURO 2012 in Berlin is at the PRATER beer garten on http://www.pratergarten.de/d/ on Kastanienallee 7 – 9 in Prenzlauer Berg. Very close to the OTA-Berlin Serviced Apartments buildings at Metzer Strasse and Schoenhauser Allee.
