://about blank – Markgrafendamm 24c, 10245 Berlin – Friedrichshain

About Blank is one of those clubs in Berlin that people either never hear about, or hear about and have never been to. Its also a pretty sweet little experience. Situated directly beside the Ostkreuz station, its quite accessible, that is of course if you can get by the bouncers when you get there. I have never had MUCH trouble entering but I have, a number of times, had to sweet-talk my way in there. The last time I attended, everyone I talked to had been refused outright but after a short discussion, convinced the doormen to allow them inside. So I think you should be ready for the arising of this scenario should you approach the queue less door. I think they’re looking for the usual Berlin hipster-ish type along with an international feel and absolutely no louts or trouble whatsoever. So use that information as you see fit

So, once you get inside, its quite dark. During the winter, the main area is inside and its is basically a long narrow strip of rooms. As far as I can remember, the music policy is quite good, obviously electronic, Berlin style electronic that is, so pretty upbeat plink plonk. The clientèle is also pretty interesting, think Berghain and Bar 25 etc. The club however, really comes into its own during the summer. Outside it houses a quite run down and overgrown large stage, garden and bar area which is actually very very cool. In between sitting on a deck chair for an hour, lying on a couch for an hour and checking out some pretty good Djs, I managed a three hour adventure trek through the forest type thing – which isn’t actually that big at all but features some interesting places to sit, like beside nettles or in a pretty cool caravan type thing.

Drink prices are also pretty reasonable if my memory serves me correctly, the bar staff seem pretty friendly and just make sure the weather is going to be good if you go during the summer! You don’t want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere like a drowned rat. There is, after all, a very limited roofed section and if you try to find refuge in Ostkreuz station.. Best of luck!

Enjoy.
