‘Canada Day’ - ‘Fête du Canada’ is July 1st, Canada’s national day, a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act – otherwise known as the ‘ Constitution Act, 1867′, -which united the two British colonies and a province of the British Empire into one single country called ‘Canada’.
Canada generally plays a positive role in the world – as a meeting point of diverse international peoples it has over the last hundred years welcomed both the poor and disenfranchised as well as others seeking to build a future for their families in a huge rich country in need of a population.
Canada Day observances take place throughout Canada as well as internationally -for local Berlin activities today pls see;http://www.toytowngermany.com/lofi/index.php/t262113.html
And in the Netherlands a great tribute to Canadian Artists opened yesterday in the northern city of Groningen – The exhibition Painting Canada – Tom Thomson and The Group of Seven provides an overview of the extraordinary work of the Group of Seven, an artists’ group that arose in Canada at the beginning of the twentieth century and disbanded in 1933. Their landscape paintings are considered among Canada’s most important cultural treasures, yet one that has never before been seen in the Netherlands. The Groninger Museum is thrilled that it has been able to find sponsors to present this exhibition. http://www.groningermuseum.nl/en/exhibition/painting-canada

Many Canadians stay with OTA-Berlin – read a guest-review from two weeks ago in JUNE – some VANCOUVERITES write below- we salute them on this their National Day!
We enjoyed our last 5 days in Berlin.
We have concluded that there were three contributing factors-
1-the location of the suite in Berlin
2-the furnishings + cleanliness of the OTA- Berlin suite
We figure that if we did not have factors 1 + 2 above we would not have appreciated 3.
So take a bow for all three and see you again next year!
