The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012, is now 22 days old – we are at the final game and anything can happen! Spain or Italy………well it ended up being SPAIN and in a big way! I have now written a daily blog article with the salient features of all the games. Historic opportunity loomed for Spain – third title in a row – they wanted to write history’ – and they did just that in style and the wonderfull manner in which they play their football.

Spain and Italy were 2 very good and tough teams and the game would be close – much closer than the 4-0 win for Spain end result would indicate.
The red Spanish team and the light-blue Italian national football teams started brightly and aggressively with Italy seemingly not impressed with Spain’s very talented and experienced midfield. Conversely Spain did not shirk in awe of the great Italian defense and their last-man goalie Buffon – they kept reminding the Italians that they were World and European champions and imposed their physical presence – even if they were the shortest team in the tournament!
It was unfortunate for the Italian injuries which happened after the two- nil lead for Spain when the game was already more or less decided.
The Italians, to their credit, did not give up like previous Italian teams may have done – Balotelli was even back defending and in the end one has to respect their great spirit in spite of playing with one man less for a large part of the 2nd half.
