Siemens AG, the German electrical engineering company and Europe’s largest engineering conglomerate will sign a multi-billion Euro contract with the Russian state railways ‘Rossiyskie Zheleznye Dorogi’ [ RZhD ]- for the supply of regional trains,
The value of this order is worth circa 2 billion Euros and will be formally agreed by Chancellor Angela Merkel and Siemens CEO Loescher during thier trip to Russia later this week.
Ms Merkel will be travelling with 25 high-level German businessmen on the a 4 day trip which will also include a stop in Kazakhstan.
Siemens will supply regional locomotives and carriages approximately 240 units and will be the 2nd valuable contract which has been won by Siemens in Russia this year – in May 221 locomotives were sold to Russia with a value of circa 1 billion Euro.
The Russian domestic railway network operates more kilometrage of track than any other country in Europe and Siemens plans to assist on the expansion of network.
Last December a high-speed train built by Siemens AG commenced services between the major and busy passenger city-pair hubs of Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
Siemens’ international headquarters are located in Berlin, Munich and Erlangen, Germany. The company has three major business areas – Industrial, Energy and Healthcare -with a total of 15 divisions.
