Berlin was where he spent the most important part of his early artistic life when in 1972; he captured the lively, turbulent and dynamic atmosphere in the then West Berlin – then full of student protests and also the rise of an active gay movement,
Berlin even then was an important artistic center in Europe, a bit on the periphery, but it none the less provided many important examples for the rest of German and it always seemed that important artistic things always happened in Berlin first. As is the case today, so this has not changed.
Fetting remains an ardent supporter of Berlin and as an observer of how the city has changed since the 1970’s. His brightly colored pictures and expressive manner of painting are unique and easily identifiable.
The present exhibition – to open today – is personally supported by the Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit and will present circa 40 works spanning 4 decades of his work. http://www.berlinischegalerie.de/
The show will run until the 12th of September at theBERLINISCHE GALERIE – Alte Jakobstraße 124-128 -10969 Berlin.
