Berlin FASHION – INFORMAL = FORMAL = INFORMAL
Berlin Gets Fashionable – ‘Mode Macht Schule’ – November 26 – 28
It’s not hard to see that Berlin loves fashion thanks to all the tiny Berlin-based designer shops dotting the streets in un-renovated buildings, and all of the people walking along the streets wearing everything from 100% leather (so what if its mismatched), to ripped tights and nice sweater combos, to all the women on Oranienburgerstr. with their impossibly high heels and fanny packs no matter how cold it is outside.
It’s clear that Berliners don’t hesitate to wear what they want, bringing out out the good, the bad and the ugly. Perhaps this is why UNESCO recently coined Berlin the “City of Design.”
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is a great event for the rich, famous and established in the world but that just isn’t totally Berlin, the ‘arm aber sexy’ capital, now is it?
Mode Macht Schule is, on the other hand, finally a fun and young event for up-and coming international designers to present their threads to the public in a unique way, not to mention the entire event is free.
The three day event incorporates Berlin’s rambunctious spirit with its penchant for creativity, creating an interesting schedule of events.
This November the Lette-Verein Berlin will be putting many of its designs on display.
Four times already this year other schools have been the focal point for Mode Macht Schule, but this event, as the closing one for the year, has a special significance.
Although none of these events strictly mentions an after-party, as did the four earlier this year, one can assume that there will be one at a place mentioned at the show, meaning if you want to go to the after-party, you have to go to the show.
Day 1 is the “Fashion Battle” in which four teams square off against one another by creating a 30-second clip that illuminates the process of designing fashion, photographing it and animating it. This is meant to showcase the process of design. This begins at 7 p.m.
Day 2 is the “Fashion Walk” in which the public sits at eye level with the fashion paraded before it, literally taking fashion off of a pedestal and making it accessible. The clothing that will be here displayed will soon be published in “Fashion Magazine.” This also begins at 7 p.m. Earlier in the day the photo exhibition opens, which will remain open until the closing of the event on the following day.
Day 3 is the “Fashion Panel” for, what would a fashion show be without some kind of judgment? There will be a panel discussion centering around “Modestadt Berlin?” which will discuss where Berlin fits into the great fashion cities of the world, as well as how Berliners see fashion and its fashion schools. This begins at 8 p.m.
All show are in the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
