According to ‘Visit Berlin’ almost 1 million visitors came to Berlin in October – circa 917,000 to be exact.
This has been the highest number ever for just one month – and an increase of 14% over last year. Berlin Tourists booked about 2 million hotel nights in October.
In spite of the strong Euro at the beginning of the year – which has since fallen somewhat – and the international economic crisis, Berlin began the 2010 tourism year with record visitor numbers.
In 2009 a cumulative number of 8.3 million guests checked into Berlin’s hotels, hostels and serviced apartments to find Berlin accomodation - an 4.5 % increase over the previous year and spent a total of 18.87 million overnights the Berliner Hotelerie.
The average Berlin length-of-stay was 2.3 nights, a slight increase over 2008.
Visitor numbers have been increasing steadily for the past 6 years and it seems they are people who would otherwise have visited the other popular European capitals
European as well as world-wide, tourists are finding that Berlin offers unbeatable value and the word is quickly being passed on – Berlin is the new In-Place.
Berlin’s extremely competitive average hotel rate – which stood at 76 Euro compares very well against Paris , London ,Madrid, and Rome which all seem over-priced by comparison.
‘Visit Berlin’ is the official agency for congress and tourism partners in the various markets and the active information broker for the international travel industry, along with operating ‘Berlin Tourist Information’, which offers complete tourist services to Berlin visitors.
Berlin’s new Airport, the Berlin-Brandenburg International/ BBI will open in 2011, and as the region’s biggest development project, will make it even easier for visitors arriving/departing Berlin by air – it will have an initial capacity for 27 million passengers annually upon opening.
