German drivers stranded on snowbound A20 north of Berlin

In the North east of Germany hundreds of motorists have been waiting hours in their cars for authorities to clear north-bound traffic on the A20 highway which connects Berlin to the northern port of Rostock. 

They have been snowed in on a portion of the A20 in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

It’s cold in Germany! Flights canceled at Berlin Schoenefeld and Tegel, along with Munchen and Frankfurt airports

Very powerful winds, along with icy runways and heavy snow caused hundreds of flight cancellations all over Europe on Saturday as a freezing cold front pummelled the UK and parts of Central Europe.

Schoenefeld and Tegel airports in Berlin reported delays due to snow, but only a few cancelations.

European ‘Galileo’ GPS system contract awarded to Bremen company

The German company ‘OHB Technology’  will provide 14 satellites for the EU’s ‘Galileo’ navigation system while EADS-Arianespace of France will launch them into space.

EADS-Airbus seems to be more or less black-mailing to scrap its A400M military freighter if European partner governments do not agree to pump circa 6 billion Euros more into it.

The A400M finally flew for its maiden flight last month after many delays and cost over-runs. Now it seems –if you believe EADS-Airbus -the program may be terminated.

Unique 2010 computer-bug hits millions of Germans including many Berliners

Many Germans were this week unable to pay bills or get cash because of a unique software problem affecting their credit and debit cards.

It seems that a 2010 computer glitch -unique to Germany- has left millions of debit and credit cards holders unable to withdraw cash and left many frustrated holiday makers stranded.

Countess Freya von Moltke–Deichmann has died aged 98

One of the few remaining links to the anti-Nazi resistance movement, Freya Grafin von Moltke – Deichmann has died 01st January in the US at the age 98.

She was the widow of Helmuth von Moltke, a former legal counselor to the German Army’s high command, who was convicted of so-called ‘treason’ by a nazi court and hanged in early 1945.
