Air Berlin off target in Dortmund – on target at Stock Exchange

An Air Berlin 737-800, with 165 passengers -destination  Spain’s Canary Islands – ran off the runway at Dortmund airport on Sunday.

The pilot -for as of yet unknown reasons -decided to abort the takeoff at the last instance, braked but came off the runway in icy conditions. The aircrafts front wheels came embedded in a snow-covered slope.

German Audi A3 -TDI is named ‘green’ car of the year

The prestigious Los Angeles Motor Show , has selected a German car, two years in a row, as ‘green’ car of the year. 

The Audi A3 – TDI diesel follows on the award which was  chosen last year as the “green” car of 2008, Volkswagen diesel Jetta. 

Both German carmakers have won for their clean diesel technology.

Hertha gets Kobiasvili & Gekas – Toni leaves Bayern – Mackaay possibly to FC Nurnberg

Bottom Bundesliga football team Hertha Berlin have signed Georgian midfielder Levan Kobiasvili from Schalke FC. This comes after another transfer-loan signing when Hertha took Greek forward Theofanis Gekas from Bayer-Leverkusen until the end of the season.

Berlin celebrates big-time – Happy New Year 2010 !

Nearly one million festive Berlin revelers brought in the new year 2010 under and near the Brandenburg Gate and watched a city sponsored 10 minute fire-works display. 

German band ‘Right Said Fred’ and solo artists Jurgen Drews and ‘Loona’ performed live in freezing temperatures and light snow.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel New Year’s address – German economy ‘one step back, two steps forward’
