Photo from Wikipedia shows Anti-American (“Yankee go home – imperialism is a paper tiger”) and anti-Israeli (“23 popularly elected in Israeli prisons”) banners and placards at a demonstration in Kungsträdgården in Stockholm, Sweden, against Israel’s 2006 Lebanon War. About 1 500 people participated in the demonstration- author – robotpolisher

A Review of Chalet – Berlin’s New Kreuzberg Nightclub
If heaven were a place on Earth, for hipsters that heaven might just bear the name of Chalet. The club, which was created by the owners of the former Bar 25 and the current KaterHolzig, opened earlier this month during Berlin Fashion Week with a 4 [...] Continue Reading…

Barenboim OTA-Berlin
The spectacle of the of the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremonies seemed at times tedious and dumbed down – as a typical event catering to American TV audiences.
While it was a good idea to show the history of the British Isles – in as much as one can do in such a limited time and space – there was too much [...] Continue Reading…

In the late 19th century, Berlin turned from a courtly seat of an upstart principality into a bustling and modern city – Berlin was nothing short of boomtown in the later part of the 19th century. It was the court of the Hohenzollern family that dominated the city in the 1880s and the era was also referred to as “Wilhelmine Berlin”.
Berlin neighbourhoods [...] Continue Reading…

Continue Reading…

Yesterday, on Monday, the American ratings agency Moody’s lowered the credit futures from “stable” to “negative” of three EU countries – Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Germans are in no mood to deal with opportunist Moodys, a detached and biased market analyst based on another continent who thinks it can just run rough-shod over other peoples – in this case European – economies. [...] Continue Reading…

Evgeny Nikitin – jumped or pushed – does the right thing and vacates Bayreuther Festspiele’.
Where else but in Bayreuth, – with its very sinister dark past and Nazi symbolism, would a ‘sin of youth’ – as his Nazi tattoo has been described – stop a singer from participating in a major cultural event like the Bayreuther Festspiele’ . http://www.dw.de/dw/article/0,,16118550,00.html
But the ‘sin of [...] Continue Reading…

The planned and much discussed 2013 Germany / Switzerland tax treaty could still be scuppered before it takes effect next year.
This treaty, which is still scheduled to come into effect on January 1st, would in effect force Swiss banks to automatically deduct German taxes from the accounts of its German customers who have conveniently parked their money there in the past specifically [...] Continue Reading…

Continue Reading…
