Angela Merkel -

The gap between the UK and the rest of the Europe is widening.

The Conservative government of David Cameron -in future to be referred to ‘arms-dealer merchant of death David Cameron’ – have threated to torpedo the upcoming EU budget summit and ostensibly the visit yesterday by German Bundes Chancellor Merkel was supposed to mediate this.

It must have been some awkward discussion because [...] Continue Reading…

Pull up those PIGS!- OTA-Berlin

Exactly one year ago this blog published a picture of a very large poster which was produced to oppose the bank-bailout which were then being planned in the EU and satirizing the state of affairs – Merkel and French President at the time -Sarkozy – pulling the strings.

These so-called PIIGS countries are the scapegoat, or have become the sacrificial lamb in the [...] Continue Reading…

‘East is East and West is West’ - still valid for parts of Germany

The annual report on ‘German reunification’ was delivered in Berlin yesterday by Germany’s Interior Minister Friedrich – and it concedes that while progress has been made to reconcile the economic differences there still remains a lot of work to be done.

In an article entitled ‘Germany’s former East still lagging behind’ the German Deutsche Welle reports about the report….and says ….” Even 22 years [...] Continue Reading…

EURO sign outside Frankfurt ECB office - foto from Wikipedia by Lars Aronsson

All eyes were on the constitutional court president, Andreas Vosskühle, who delivered what many believed to be an historical verdict some hours ago in the German city of Karlsruhe.
Amongst his rather stern and dour colleagues -in what looked like some  kind of kitsch Dutch orange-clad football supporter outfits – he read out the courts findings. [ see foto in link to Sueddeutsche article below!]

‘ILA – Berlin’ is one of the world’s major air shows, not as large as Farnborough or Paris but equal in regional importance to other shows like Dubai and Singapore. It is certainly the oldest – the original Berlin air show was in 1909 and a special anniversary was held in 2009 to celebrate the 100th anniversary.

The new ILA-Berlin grounds are to be [...] Continue Reading…

Das ‘Ein Quadratmeter Haus’ – Small is beautiful! Artikel für ‘OTA-Berlin Constituency Blog’ von Theo v. Couveren

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012

Continue Reading…

Berlin funny fotos # 7 – ‘FURKAN Market’ on Wassertorstraße near Prinzenstraße – Kreuzberg, Berlin

Monday, July 16th, 2012

I have no idea how the Furkan market got its Furkan name but it sure is furkan funny!

I am sure the owners have no idea how extremely funny it can sound in English.

There is also a German village with the similar name –Fürken whose location is in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, near Köln.

The “F-word”  is an English word that is almost universally considered vulgar [...] Continue Reading…

Berliner Flughäfen – Geschichte und Gegenwart – Verzögerung auf Berlin Brandenburg International

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Continue Reading…

Berlin funny fotos # 5- Glossy Ceramic CONEHEAD statuette – Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg near Ostkreuz

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

This Ceramic ‘Conehead’ statuette was found by blog reader Oleg on the corner of Boxhagener Strasse & Wühlischstraße near Ostkreuz – it is in neighbourhood or Bezirk of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.

‘Coneheads’ are an alien family, natives of the planet Remulak, who found themselves stranded on Earth and when questioned by Earthlings where they are from they inevitably reply that they are “from France”. Their [...] Continue Reading…

The Future Of The Future Lab: Can BMW B&Q it in Berlin? – by OTA Berlin Blog contributor Jörn Meyer

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

“You can do it when you B&Q it” used to run a popular slogan for the UK DIY chain. At the moment it seems that BMW can’t B&Q it. Finalise the setting up of a temporary Future Lab, that is. The car maker was due to open a carbon-firbe structure housing the lab, designed by a Japanese architectural firm, on May 24 [...] Continue Reading…
