A400M transport plane overflies last hurdle – deliveries to start next year

The Airbus A400M transport plane has finally achieved an ‘all-systems-go’ status after an official signing ceremony confirming first deliveries for 2012.

The signing finalized an earlier agreement in which 7 European countries agreed to assist Airbus in covering the cost overruns of the project, which was both overdue and over budget.

Lufthansa orders 30 Airbus and 5 Boeing aircraft

Lufthansa has placed orders for 35 new aircraft – 30 of the new passenger aircraft are of the new up-graded Airbus A320neo type and 5 are for Boeing 777-freighters for their Cargo business.

With greater fuel efficiency, these new aircraft will bring lower operating costs and also cut noise levels and CO2 emissions.

Air Berlin disclosed today that it managed to increase its 2010 cumulative passenger boardings, carrying circa 34 million airline passengers – an increase of almost 4% over 2009 -so a good year for Germany’s 2nd largest aviation company after state controlled Lufthansa.

‘Petra’ – the storm – ‘visits’ Berlin + Germany

Germany’s sophisticated, well thought-out infrastructure – its complex road and traffic system were thrown into a complete state of flux yesterday by the heavy snow accompanied by wind which was brought by blizzard ‘Petra’.

About 100 flights were cancelled from and into Berlin’s two major airports Berlin Tegel and Berlin Schoenefeld/BBI.
