Airbus celebrates its 40th anniversary in style – Boeing outsold and overtaken again

It has been announced by Airbus, that going into this year 2011 –in which it will celebrate its 40th anniversary –  its sales overtook its fierce rival Boeing with a total sales order book of 510 airplanes – this figure being an accumulation of all aircraft types.

Air Berlin sees 3% pax increase in December – inspite of Icelandic ash cloud and some winter chaos – 2010 was good year

Air Berlin disclosed today that it managed to increase its 2010 cumulative passenger boardings, carrying circa 34 million airline passengers – an increase of almost 4% over 2009 -so a good year for Germany’s 2nd largest aviation company after state controlled Lufthansa.

‘Petra’ – the storm – ‘visits’ Berlin + Germany

Germany’s sophisticated, well thought-out infrastructure – its complex road and traffic system were thrown into a complete state of flux yesterday by the heavy snow accompanied by wind which was brought by blizzard ‘Petra’.

About 100 flights were cancelled from and into Berlin’s two major airports Berlin Tegel and Berlin Schoenefeld/BBI.

Air Berlin to move Nurnberg/Hanover flights to London Gatwick Airport

Air Berlin has disclosed that it plans to  move its London  to Nuremberg  & Hanover services over to Gatwick airport – from  Stansted – early in the new year.

Air Berlin announces results and plans to fly non-stop Berlin-Dubai

Air Berlin -Germany’s privately owned and 2nd largest airline after partially state-owned Lufthansa, reported earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) – to 53 million Euro – this is up from a year earlier.  

Air Berlin’s total revenue increased to 1.241 billion Euro from 974 million Euro over a similar corresponding  period in 2009.

Airbus A380 to Berlin? Lufthansa to introduce 747-400 to Berlin Tegel airport …..for some domestic German routes

Lufthansa has started operating  long-haul B747-400 aircraft between Berlin Tegel airport and  Frankfurt – along with some other domestic routes to Hamburg from Munich and even the shorter distance flights between Frankfurt and Munich.

This rather unusual flight schedule for such a long-distance large aircraft will initially occur  over a 3 week period.

Air Berlin – Higher Passenger figures for last month – 8.7 % passengers increase over 2009

Air Berlin, Germany’s 2nd largest German airline behind Lufthansa reported an 8.7 % in passenger traffic this September over the same period last year.

Some of the increase was due to recent acquisitions which included  TUIfly along with increasing its ownership share in its Austrian partner carrier NIKI.
