Regardless of the accusations against the Wikileaks spokesman Julian Assange, the Piraten Partei supports the continued existence of Wikileaks and is committed to the greatest possible transparency as possible in politics.
The foundation for this transparency are important sites like Wikileaks continue to advocate and provide a vehicle for whistleblowers in politics -nothing is as important and yet so dangerous as the disclosure of the truth and therefore Pirates Party’s in both Switzerland and Germany, have made a significant contributions to ensuring that Wikileaks will continue to operate.

We have found that our chamber-music evenings are among our most visited and most moving so …here we go again!
This week Thursday, 02nd of February at 2030 hrs. The Piano Salon will present some amazing chamber music. We would like to invite you to a concert of which we have very high expectations, because once again we have a very young, beautiful, talented and already famous violinist - playing on a very old and not so beautiful – but very old, sonorous and important violin. This all to be accompanied by her equally stunning sister -Lea Birringer -will be heard on the piano. By this I do not mean she will be literally ‘on the piano’ but she will be playing the instrument, in this case also a period instrument.

So come and hear –and see - the sisters Birringer, Lea and Esther -both of whom have won many competitions and are among the most important German young chamber music duo. In particular, the violinist Lea has a great reputation which is rare for such a young player.

However we are not really living in ‘usual’ times and it has been announced that Angela Merkel will go to France to ‘actively support’ President Sarkozy's re-election campaign which is a rarity for German political leaders.

He may well need all the underpinning and backing he get from outside France because it looks like Sarkozy's Social Democrat opponent, Francois Hollande will clean his clock and win. He has sportingly already stated that he takes no offense to her participation for the incumbent and assures her that he will work well with her when elected in May!

Emphasis this evening will be on the Prussian King Friedrich II, the Great, the old man, and now, on his 300th Birthday, he is almost everywhere - on the front pages of stores, in the windows of bookstores, exhibitions and television documentaries and now even at the Long Night of Museums. With good reason, as we find.

For Frederick II, more than any other personality shaped the cultural identity of the Berlin and Brandenburg and left its traces in the collections of several museums and collections.

About seventy buildings take on this 30th Long Night of the Museums, and many of them will remember with musical and literary programs or special tours to this enlightened and very special ruler.

On the famous boulevard Unter den Linden, at the famous equestrian statue of the King, there is a be lazer large-screen projection with traditional sayings of Frederick in both French and German and - if the weather cooperates - a huge snow sculpture.

With a little luck a direct flight from Salzburg to Berlin today would take about 1 hour and 20 minutes. However when Mozart took it about 223 years ago it would have taken a good 3 weeks!

Back then he would have had to travel through Brno, Prague, Dresden, Leipzig and then on to Berlin. And he came with great expectations in that spring to Berlin - as usual he was in his impecunious state -habitually plagued by money problems through-out his life.

But it was not Berlin he wanted to visit as such but rather Potsdam. Mozart came with great expectations in the spring in Berlin.

Potsdam because that is where he was hoping to obtain some commissions and obtain some new revenue source to support his family by applying directly with the Prussian ruler Frederick the Great – Fredrich II – who as it happens has a birthday just 3 days before Wolfgang!

The main gist of the entire trip was to meet the monarch himself and Mozart was sure that such a face-to-face meeting would convince his potential future patron of his ability and good will – something similar which a meeting with Johann Sebastian Bach achieved. http://www.ota-berlin.de/blog/05/21/biography-of-johann-sebastian-bach/

However it was not to be, whether through the court intrigue of a court musician who was jealous of losing out to Mozart in future musical orders or whether Frederick was just not in one of his musical moods – it seems we will never know exactly.

The influential Suddeutsche Zeitung was correct when it said that just as many talk-shows are debating changes regarding the function of the nations President and the future of the Euro, Germans should also start talking openly about what the role of the BfV, if any, should be.
It is becoming more apparent that the present ‘constitutional protection’ is ineffective, outdated and obviously being used for political purposes and has past it’s ‘use-by-date’ .
This or the next government should make it a matter of urgency to either reform or replace this antiquated intelligence agency.
The times have changed but the BfV has not changed - the BfV has become more of a problem than any kind of solution.
