Air Berlin disclosed today that it managed to increase its 2010 cumulative passenger boardings, carrying circa 34 million airline passengers – an increase of almost 4% over 2009 -so a good year for Germany’s 2nd largest aviation company after state controlled Lufthansa.

Air Berlin announces results and plans to fly non-stop Berlin-Dubai

Air Berlin -Germany’s privately owned and 2nd largest airline after partially state-owned Lufthansa, reported earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) – to 53 million Euro – this is up from a year earlier.  

Air Berlin’s total revenue increased to 1.241 billion Euro from 974 million Euro over a similar corresponding  period in 2009.

Air Berlin, Germany’s 2nd largest German airline behind Lufthansa reported an 8.7 % in passenger traffic this September over the same period last year.

Some of the increase was due to recent acquisitions which included  TUIfly along with increasing its ownership share in its Austrian partner carrier NIKI.

Bird strike incident – ‘Air Berlin’ Boeing 737 landing in Hamburg

An Boeing 737-700, of low cost German carrier  ‘Air Berlin’   arriving on a domestic flight today from Munchen to Hamburg was hit by a number of geese  on its final approach to land.

The airplane made a safe landing and is presently still in Hamburg awaiting further inspections – the birds hit the nose, windshield and CFM jet engines.

Air Berlin cancels 10 Boeing 787’s

The German low-cost airline Air Berlin will cut back its order of Boeing 787 aircraft to 15 from 25 and at the same time reduce its options from 10 to 5 aircraft.

The decision comes as part of an effort to adapt to a change in European market conditions and to meet its own specific internal operative requirements, which were not disclosed.

Air Berlin off target in Dortmund – on target at Stock Exchange

An Air Berlin 737-800, with 165 passengers -destination  Spain’s Canary Islands – ran off the runway at Dortmund airport on Sunday.

The pilot -for as of yet unknown reasons -decided to abort the takeoff at the last instance, braked but came off the runway in icy conditions. The aircrafts front wheels came embedded in a snow-covered slope.

Air Berlin – all things considered – is doing alright

German low-fare carrier Air Berlin has indicated today,  that the 2009 debt level it presently carries may be reduced by around EUR100 million if the company sells some of its aircraft before the end of the fiscal year.

It’s present debt is circa 550 million Euro, down from 760 million Euro at the same time in 2008.
